I'm loving all the song ideas for communion. But now I have a much more difficult task.....Baptism songs. I would love find songs....whether hymns or modern worship songs that can be sung either by praise team...or congregation that speak the meaning of believers baptism. As a Baptist pastor...I can't find any....so I'm hoping you all can help me out.

I like your picture which looks like you are waiting to get dunked in a dunking booth. Is that how your church does its baptisms? Just kidding.

If you mean during the baptism, I would think any kind of light instrumental music would be good for baptism. Singing may not be necessary. I would think you would just want the mood type music played on piano or acoustic guitar.

lol thanks! Yes it is a dunk tank, I was forced to be in the dunk tank because the girls raised more money than the boys during VBS. For a small church in a small town, we raised over $600 that is then used to put together shoe boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas. I think it would be a good idea for baptism though lol.

I like songs that are memorable and yet teach theology. Songs that have meaning for the Baptism that is about to take place.
A lady from California (whom I've never met) emailed me a few weeks ago and told me they showed this video during a baptism service. I know several have played it for communion (they had done that, too) but I never thought of it for baptism. I don't know why because it fits.
The song Child of Man (by Susanna Fields) is beautiful. You can listen to this song on:

I like to look for sacred in the secular. Lenny Kravitz' "Baptized" is shockingly reverant. Though it doesn't name Jesus or God overtly, the subtext of the lyrics is a very clearly Christian meditation on baptism.

I also think that "Timshel" by Mumford and Sons is about baptism, with images of water, death, birth, and communal support. Not sure how many congregations would see it that way, though.

Thank You for Saving Me is popular for baptisms round here, though I'm not a big fan.

Doerksen's The River is a good one.

You're right. There aren't enough.

We used to sing "I am a new creation" during baptisms, just after they'd re-surface.
