Hey all. I am looking into buying one of the above mentioned software to support my worship leading endeavors. My church uses reason, and there is a kid in my youth group who makes reason tracks for youth worship as well. I have heard, though, that reason is better for live situations. I am somewhat familiar with both of them, but only from a secondhand position.

So here's the question: How many of you use one, or the other? Or better yet, have used both? What are the advantages of one over the other?

Mainly, it depends on how you intend to use the sofware. I have found Reason works better for adding effects to your sound. If you want to add reverbs, delays, or tweak pads, etc. I would suggest Reason. If you want to use loops, I would suggest Ableton. Ableton is much easier to use in general (in my opinion) and is much more accesible when it comes to arranging loops in order with your songs. You can also send a second signal to your drummer to use a click. David Crowder's drummer explaines how he uses his on the Remedy Live DVD.

Now, I am a guitar player so don't take any of this as true necessarily... I've played with both and the above is what I experienced. Also, I had the opportunity to sit in on a keys master class lead by Ian McIntosh. Ian is probably one of the best keys/programmers around right now. He plays with Brian and Jenn Johnson as well as the JesusCulture band. He is also a studio programmer and works with producer Jeremy Edwardson in the studio. The two have worked with numerous well-known musicians including the latest winner of Canadian Idol and Third Day.
