I was just wondering, because I haven't been in other churches since I was born again, except for other filipino churches when our church was invited to come over. I would like to know how do you play on your own church and what kind of music do you play. Let me talkbout my church,

We play almost evrything we know of, like Don Moen, Hillsong Australia, Ron Kennoly, Michael W. Smith and a lot more. We basically have a "Welcome song" where evrbody can go around the church and welcome each other. When we see that everybody is back on their places, then we start our "Praise and Worship"songs.

We prepare 2 songs for each category, but the songs should have in it the theme of the week or the Preacher's message. With regards to "Worship songs" we particularly pick those songs that can give us a Spirit of High Worship especially during the last song, making it "Gand" if you call it that way. But everything else, all the repeats, the technicalities, and tempo, we just let the Holy Spirit lead us. That's actually the purpose of our worship anyways.

After the Message, we get back to the pulpit to sing our "Victory" Song. It can be mellow, or fast song, whatever the Worship leader prefers to play.

That's basically how our Worship Team do every week. We also do some Prayer Meetings and some exhortations after the service but thats just an extra curricular activities from our group.

How about yours, tell us something about your Music Team.

God bless you..... To God be all the Glory...Amen.

Well, it varies each week for us. However, we usually have 5 songs that we do that most of the time consist of 3 fast, 2 slow. How we play them is up to God.

Sometimes we'll break between the fast and slow set to pray. Lately I've felt the Holy Spirit prompting us to play through the whole set, ending with the worshipful songs which leads naturally to prayer. He's been wonderful making everything flow!

Sometimes we'll start with the slow set, and the pastor will usually do corporate prayer prior to us starting.

I've been pushing for an exit song, it's really nice to have something that people can sing and celebrate to, but so far it hasn't materialized :-) No matter!

We share our church with two other churches, and we are the cream filling of the oreo cookie, so we don't have a lot of time to linger, and that's the most frustrating thing for us right now.

We'll usually try to put a hymn in there at least a few times a month, and I have some nice contemporary versions of the old favorites which our congregation does seem to enjoy.

God Bless!
Hi Jessie, we tend to stay with Hillsongs at the present time, however there are three worship leaders and we do get a good mix from some of the 'oldies' to up to date Hillsongs. I believe in acknowledging the workings of the Holy Spirit in all things and when you are led in the Spirit pretty amazing things happen! Our church often sings in tongues which is awesome. I believe there is a time and place for all and I personally lead with Don Moen, Chris Bowater, Hillsongs and songs such as Majesty by Jack Hayford, Amazing Grace, (quite a Gospel start that goes jazzy towards the end) a new version of I stand amazed. I love some of the Celtic Worship and now we have a flute player hope to do some of those. I must say I'm always sensative, or try to be, to the Pastor, and revolve the songs around the messsage. May God Bless Your Music Ministry and Your Church Dear Brother...Nigel
In our fellowship, we devote a LOT of time to worship in song and prayer. The Holy Spirit leads in several ways, however there is a "normal" pattern - A couple opening "call to worship" type songs, followed by announcements and a scripture reading. What follows is normally about six more songs, often related to the theme of the pastor's message. Most songs are upward in orientation. After the sermon, we usually close with an uptempo praise song, though at times the Spirit moves us to close with something more contemplative or a call to repentance. Of course, there are times when the Spirit changes that all around. We have had services where almost the entire time was spent in teaching with only a few songs mixed in. We have also had services where the Spirit has led the pastor to ask us to just keep playing. While we have a routine, we want to always be open to where God is leading.

Our music is rock oriented. The worship team ranges in age from 17 to 52. Sunday morning is almost always all electic. During the week, our gatherings amost always have a short time of acoustic worship. Our songs are originals mixed in with Hillsong, Vineyard, Calvary Chapel, old Maranatha! Music, Tomlin, Crowder, occasional hymns (modernized) and lately, songs I have found on the internet.

Psalm 103:21-22 (New Living Translation)

21 Yes, praise the Lord, you armies of angels
who serve him and do his will!
22 Praise the Lord, everything he has created,
everything in all his kingdom.

Let all that I am praise the Lord.
I can see that everyone is doing basically the same type of worship service. I've had some unique experiences leading worship in HIspanic churches. Whether Guatamalan or Mexican, the services are long and can last up to 5 and 6 hours on occasion. They will have 2 hours or more of prase and worship, during which people are encouraged to come foreward and offer a song, scripture or words of exhortation to the congregation. The songs are very simple, usually only 2 chords in the Guatamalan services, but they use trumpets and 2 keyboards and use a polka type beat for every song. In Mexico there is more variety in the song selection and better quality musicianship, plus they use a team of Pandaristas, women who dance with tamboreens and do choreographed routines for each song. In Ghana, Africa the music is so high energy and uptempo that our fastest songs seem mellow by comparrison and everyone dances young and old alike. The worship leader will sing a line of the song and then the whole congregation sings it back. We could learn alot from their enthusiasm and openness to the Holy Spirit.

One thing I wish would happen more in our services is for the leadership to allow more direction from the Holy Spirit. When services are too organized and well-thought-out, our agendas are more obvious and we often miss what God is trying to do in our midst. A praise and worship team needs to be very unified and have plenty of songs to draw from and be able to go into whatever direction the Holy Spirit takes them once the service gets started. Set lists are good and often necessary for people to focus and get organized, however in the best of all possible circumstances, I can envision services in which God's will is being done as each person on the worship team is guided by the move of the Holy Spirit that lives within them. The worship leader who is really in touch with the lord can guide the team into the songs that will work best for what God is planning to do in the service, and this applies to the pastor as well.

I've been in services where we started playing the correct song and people just started streaming down to the altar crying, praying, laying down their burdens, calling out to God and the whole service was committed to working at the altar, praying for people and laying hands on the sick, the worried, the confused, the suffering and at the end many people came to salvation, restoration and deliverance through the move of the Holy Spirit. It wasn't a church service, so much as a revival and rejuvenation of people's faith and a spiritual awakening. To me, this should be the goal and purpose of our services. The young and old alike should be excited and looking foreward to what God is going to do next.

I may be idealistic but if I hadn't experienced this happen many times, I wouldn't feel so strongly about how it should be.
there's a girl named Lisa Coles and her music is really awesome. I love it! check her out www.lisacolesmusic.com or www.myspace.com/lisacoles
wellin my worhip band we stick to the contemporary sound.....
but with my own christian band "Gun Down Goliath" we play metal music for the Lord.
We do it so that we can take the message into the places like Metal shows and stuff, coz those places are clearly areas that need the word and are forgotten about...
so ya i play abit of both contemporary and extreme metal!
